How to annoy me #78955
Ignore aesthetics and good design, and basically a GOOD IDEA, in the name of blatant vainglory and self-importance.
Case in point: choosing an UGLY coin design instead of a beautiful one just because it has the SHAPE of the island of Guam and a latte stone. Or perhaps some elected officials cousin’s roommate’s brother designed the chosen coin. It seems to me that there is just as much symbolism of “endurance, fortitude and discovery” in the detailed, artistic design. Let’s look again at the two distinct designs:

And let’s then look at other state designs:

Even Wyoming’s Brokeback Mountain coin isn’t as offensive to the eyes.
Unrelated aside: this whole situation reminds me of the pointless, expensive Tutujan Park project.
What are people going to think when they look at our coin, I wonder. “Oh look, there’s a boot, a chalice, and a sailboat!”
Bleh.
Well, at least we’ve got a coin.
